Gene editing is an artificial process which modifies DNA at a precise location on the genome. Overseas gene editing research in cattle has included:
- The introduction of the poll gene (from another breed) into naturally horned Holstein animals
- The introduction of a gene involved in BVDV resistance
Gene editing is not approved in Australia. The regulation of gene technology in Australia is the responsibility of the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR).
