What is your target market?

Consider the market you are currently targeting. For example:

  • Do you produce animals for the vealer/weaner, supermarket, long-fed, export or other sale or slaughter markets?
  • What are the market specifications for each of the markets that you target?
  • Are there MSA or other premiums available?

As genetics are a long-term investment, also consider potential future changes and challenges for your target market. For example:

  • Are MSA or other premiums likely to be offered in the future (if not currently available)?
  • What about payments for yield?
  • Could a price on carbon be introduced?

You should also consider whether you are likely to have a different target market in the future.
