This short module introduces the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program and explains how it supports food safety, animal welfare, and market access.

You’ll get a high-level view of what LPA is, why it matters, and what to expect as you move through the program.

Learning outcomes

On completing this package, you will be able to:

  • describe what the LPA program is and the areas it covers, including food safety, traceability, animal welfare and biosecurity.
  • recognise when LPA accreditation is required to sell livestock
  • identify what LPA accreditation provides access to, including selling options, markets, and the use of LPA National Vendor Declarations (NVDs)
  • explain why LPA underpins Australia’s domestic and international market access
  • recognise how LPA provides assurance across the red meat supply chain
  • access LPA rules, standards and further learning resources when more detailed information is required.
