Biosecurity

Overview

This module is part of the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) learning package and focuses on managing biosecurity risks on-farm.

You’ll learn how to create and maintain a biosecurity plan and the importance of having one in place, keeping records of people and equipment entering your property, and managing biosecurity risks when introducing new livestock or feed. These simple but effective actions will help you stay on top of biosecurity risks and protect your animals, land, and livelihood while supporting the reputation of the Australian red meat industry.

Learning outcomes

On completing this module, you will be able to:

understand the purpose and benefits of a documented farm biosecurity plan.
record and manage the movement of people, livestock, vehicles and equipment.
assess and manage biosecurity risks when introducing new livestock or feed onto the property.
apply production practices that reduce the risk of pests, diseases and contamination.
recognise and respond to risks from feral animals, weeds and pests.
