ConclusionConclusion1 quiz
Genetic inheritance is why we see resemblance between related individuals. Therefore, knowledge of relationships (via pedigree and genomic information) is central to the calculation of BREEDPLAN EBVs. The following relationship types are used in the calculation of BREEDPLAN EBVs:
- Ancestral (e.g. parents, grandparents)
- Descendant (e.g. progeny, grandprogeny)
- Collateral (e.g. sibling, cousin)
For BREEDPLAN analyses conducted for beef breed societies, pedigree information is provided via the breed society. For BREEDPLAN analyses outside of the breed-society structure, pedigree information is provided by the breeder.
