To successfully measure the impact of a project you must be able to capture the space between where you started and where you ended. That means establishing the baseline (the starting place) and then measuring your progress and capturing the space between.
Ask yourself these questions to help develop your metrics:
1.What is the type of impact that you want? For example:
- Financial
- Efficiency
- Compliance
- Customer experience
- Quality
- Safety
- Culture
2. What is the current state? For example:
- Current costs
- Sales
- Current time required
- Number of accidents and injuries
- Staff survey
3. What is the desired future state? For example:
- Goals
- Vision
4. How will you assess the impact? For example:
- Cost savings
- Increased Sales
- Saved time/resources
- Decreased accidents and injuries
- Staff satisfaction
